Main Street Utility Project and Intersection Closure

**UPDATE: Due to weather conditions, the concrete is not finished curing on this project. The closures mentioned will now be in effect until Monday, March 25.**

Watertown, WI March 15, 2024 - The City of Watertown wishes to inform residents and commuters about an upcoming utility project on Main Street that will necessitate a temporary road closure at the intersection of Water Street and Main Street.

Starting at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 18, 2024, the intersection of Water Street and Main Street will be closed to facilitate essential maintenance and upgrades. The closure will be in effect until 5:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024. During this period, alternative routes are advised, and drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.

While the intersection at East Main Street and 1st Street will remain open as a three-way stop to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area.

Road closure signage will be prominently displayed at key locations including:

  • Water Street & Cady Street
  • Main Street & Washington Street
  • Water Street & Emmet Street

The primary objective of this project is to replace concrete to the top of the existing concrete in the street on both sides of the bridge in the first block from the river. Subsequently, the remaining surface will be asphalted to match the existing asphalt layer over concrete, focusing on the water main trench.
