The City of Watertown, in partnership with the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce, continued its Industry and Innovation Tour with a recent visit to Rosy-Lane Holsteins LLC, a leading dairy operation recognized for its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and agricultural excellence.

Mayor Stocks and City staff toured the farm to gain insight into modern dairy operations, emerging technologies, and the evolving role of agriculture in the regional economy. The visit is part of the City’s ongoing effort to engage with key industries and better understand opportunities for growth, workforce development, and environmental stewardship.

“Rosy-Lane Holsteins represents the best of Wisconsin agriculture. They are forward-thinking, technologically advanced, and committed to sustainability,” said Mayor Stocks. “This visit highlighted how innovation in agriculture continues to drive economic impact while responsibly managing natural resources.”

During the tour, Rosy-Lane leadership highlighted a suite of advanced technologies that support efficiency, animal health, and data-driven decision-making. These include:

  • Modern milking systems that allow cows to be milked quickly and correctly while collecting real-time data on milk production, quality, and animal health

  • Digitally monitored feeding systems that precisely deliver rations based on herd needs, improving nutrition and reducing waste

  • Wearable herd monitoring sensors that track activity, rumination, and health indicators to proactively identify issues

  • Plans to implement manure separation within the next year to further advance nutrient management systems that optimize nutrient reuse, reduce environmental impact, and support crop production

  • Precision agriculture tools, including GPS-guided equipment and data mapping, to enhance crop yields and soil health

  • On-farm data management platforms that integrate herd, feed, and crop data to improve operational decision-making

In addition to technological advancements, the farm emphasized its environmentally responsible practices. These include comprehensive nutrient management planning, water conservation strategies, and manure handling systems designed to protect local waterways while enhancing soil productivity.

Looking ahead, Rosy-Lane Holsteins outlined future plans focused on continued investment in automation, data integration, and sustainable growth. These efforts position the operation to remain competitive while adapting to evolving market conditions and environmental standards.

“Agriculture remains a cornerstone of our regional economy, and operations like Rosy-Lane demonstrate how innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand,” said Linden Peacy, Executive Director of the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to highlight their leadership and explore ways to support continued advancement in this sector.”

The Industry and Innovation Tour is a collaborative initiative between the City and the Chamber to showcase the diversity of Watertown’s economic base - from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to agriculture and hospitality - while identifying opportunities for partnership and growth.

The City of Watertown extends its appreciation to Rosy-Lane Holsteins for hosting the tour and for its continued leadership in advancing modern, sustainable agriculture.
