Firefighter Cory Schultz holding his newly earned chapliancy certificate

The Watertown Fire Department is proud to congratulate Cory Schultz on successfully completing the Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy training, a 16-hour professional development course designed to deepen understanding and skills in chaplaincy within the fire service.

Cory has been an active contributor to the Jefferson County POST team and a strong advocate for mental health awareness and peer support within our department. His commitment to this specialized training reflects his dedication to caring for the well-being of our people and the community we serve.

The Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy course explores core aspects of chaplain service, including ministry to firefighters and crisis victims, understanding chaplain roles during critical incidents, and supporting personnel through stress, grief, and loss. This training strengthens our internal capacity to support responders with compassion and professionalism.

At Watertown Fire Department, taking care of our people is a core focus. When our firefighters and paramedics are supported and well prepared, they bring their best to every call and every interaction with the community. That’s how we build a department that serves with heart and steady commitment. This aligns with our mission to protect lives and property and our ongoing efforts to foster a supportive, resilient work environment that reflects our department values of compassion, trust and dedication.

“Cory’s thoughtful leadership and dedication to mental health efforts set a standard for what it means to care for both colleagues and community members,” said Fire Chief Tanya Reynen. “His completion of this chaplaincy training is another example of how we prepare our team to meet the full spectrum of needs in times of emergencies and in everyday service.”
