Road work preview 2025

Watertown, WI, May 5, 2025 — The City of Watertown announces a series of road and infrastructure improvement projects scheduled for the 2025 construction season. These efforts reflect the city's continued investment in maintaining infrastructure, pedestrian accessibility, and improving the overall travel experience for residents and visitors.

One major reconstruction project will take place in 2025:

  • S. First Street/Western Avenue – E. Milwaukee St. to S. Third St. (845 ft.) This project is funded through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s STP-Local program, with a grant award of $500,000. The reconstruction will improve road structure and drainage while incorporating pedestrian and safety enhancements.

Resurfacing Projects
A number of streets throughout Watertown will undergo resurfacing in 2025, with funding from both state programs and local resources:

  • Meadowbrook Drive – Beacon Dr. to N. Fourth St. (1162 ft.)
    Funded by the Wisconsin DOT’s Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP), with a reimbursement of $58,881.56.

  • N. Fourth Street – Carl Schurz Dr. to STH 16 (528 ft.)
    A locally funded mill and overlay project.

  • W. Main Street – S. Monroe St. to S. Warren St. (450 ft.)
    Another locally funded mill and overlay effort.

The following locally funded full depth resurfacing projects are also scheduled:

  • Oakwood Lane – Bittersweet Ln. to Milford St. (950 ft.)

  • Bittersweet Lane – Crestview Dr. to Oakwood Ln. (581 ft.)

  • Cobblestone Way – Milford St. to Oakwood Ln. (686 ft.)

  • Country Lane – Mary Knoll Ln. to Carriage Hill Dr. (475 ft.)

  • Sweetbriar Lane – Mary Knoll Ln. (S) to Mary Knoll Ln. (N) (1742 ft.)

  • West Street Frontage Road – Benton St. to termini (370 ft.)

  • The S. First Street public parking lot will be resurfaced.

Other, smaller resurfacing projects include:

  • The plaza on Main Street, located on the southeast side of the Main Street bridge, will be restored and upgraded with an ADA-compliant ramp to improve accessibility.

  • The alleyway between Main and Market Streets, connecting First and Second Streets will also be resurfaced

State Highway 16 is being resurfaced by the state, and as part of the project a new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of E Main Street and State Highway 16. Contact the WisDOT Project Manager, Craig Hardy, at 608-246-5406 with any questions about this project.
