Watertown, Wis. (July 5, 2024) – Construction is set to begin on a crucial safety improvement project on Welsh Road at the STH 26 Bypass Overpass. This project, which includes the installation of new guardrails and signage, aims to enhance safety for all road users in the area.

Construction is scheduled to start on Monday, July 8th, weather permitting, with work hours from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. CBS Squared, Inc. has been hired to complete the project. While no roadway closures are anticipated, there will be periodic shoulder closures to accommodate the construction activities. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and be mindful of workers in the area during these times.

The safety improvements are funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). The project addresses identified safety concerns and is part of the city's ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and enhance the safety of its infrastructure.

"We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and all who travel through our city," said Mayor Emily McFarland. "These enhancements on Welsh Road at the STH 26 Bypass Overpass are an important step in addressing safety concerns and reducing the risk of accidents."

The City of Watertown appreciates the patience and cooperation of the public as we work to complete these essential improvements. For updates and further information, please visit the City of Watertown's website or contact the Department of Public Works.
