Changes at Yard Waste Drop-off Site - Sand Filter Installation

Watertown, WI - May 1, 2024 - The City of Watertown is pleased to announce the construction for a sand filtration system at the Yard Waste Drop-Off Site, located at 1501 Boomer Street. This project, designed to enhance environmental protection, will begin on May 6, 2024, with a duration estimated at 6-8 weeks, weather dependent.

The City is required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to mitigate pollutants such as sediment and phosphorus from stormwater before it reaches the Rock River and other local streams, lakes, and wetlands under its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit.

To achieve this environmental objective, City staff diligently pursued and secured a WDNR Urban Nonpoint Source (UNPS) & Storm Water Management Grant to fund this project.

In alignment with our commitment to transparency and community safety, please note that construction hours are subject to change. We kindly ask for your cooperation and understanding as we work diligently to complete this important initiative.

During the construction period, visitors to the site are advised to adhere to the following guidelines for their safety and the safety of construction personnel.

  • Follow Designated Driving Paths: Please utilize the designated driving path within the site area.
  • Observe Signs and Directions: Read and adhere to all signs posted on-site, and follow directions provided by construction personnel.
  • Stay Clear of Work Areas: For your safety, please stay clear of designated work areas, marked by cones and barrels.
  • Free Wood Chips and Compost: The free wood chips and compost pile will be temporarily relocated to the compost site near the dog park.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during the construction phase. Our goal is to ensure minimal disruption while maximizing the benefits of this essential project for the community and the environment.
