(November 8, 2023) – Rock River shoreline stabilization along the riverwalk North of the Milwaukee Street Bridge is anticipated to commence Thursday, November 9, 2023 depending on weather conditions. The riverwalk will be closed North of Milwaukee Street until further notice beginning the morning of Thursday, November 9, 2023 in anticipation of the work.
The construction area will be closed to the public. Riverwalk users will be provided safe access around the work area via the parking area North of the Senior Center building. The entrance of the parking lot is off of S. First Street. Please direct all construction-related questions to the Engineering Division at (920) 262-4060.
Shoreline stabilization is the armoring of the riverbank with large rock. The rock will stay in place during high water events reducing the potential for soil erosion that is occurring now. Over the last few years, the City has been repairing areas of shoreline erosion throughout the City’s river and streams. Future plans call for the repair and armoring of all the shoreline along the Rock River.
